Background On Feudalism
Feudalism is the system that governs the relationship between lords and vassals, also known as knights. The vassals supported the lords when an enemy is attacking. The Lord couldn't punish them without a reason, or the vassal could break all of the promises to the lord. The vassals also had to give money to the lords for special occasions such as when the lord's daughter got married. Another thing that the vassals had to do was to provide the lord with food and shelter if the lord visited. Vassals themselves could become lords if they had enough lands and was rich enough. This helped start the Manor System.
Feudalim was started by the Franks . In the 1000's, Frankish knights introduced Feudalism into Northern Italy, Spain, and Germany. It was also introduced to Britain by the French noble Willam. In 1066, William lead his knights to England and they triumphed over the Engish King .He later became king of England, and was known as William The Conquer. William gave his men land for payment. This begun Feudalism and helped start the Anoe System.
